James Bay Community School Society
The James Bay Community School Society is an organization with active staff and board members who are committed to the development of community partnerships in order to provide programs and services that meet the changing needs of the community. As the “Heart of the Community” we provide a neighbourhood gathering place for people of all ages and a strong voice for community leadership while understanding the unique qualities of James Bay.
The James Bay Community School is the non-profit organization that manages the services and activities provided by the James Bay Community School Centre including preschool, before and after school care, leisure and recreation programs, the community café, seniors’ dinner program, facility rentals and special events for people of all ages in Victoria BC.
The James Bay Community School Centre is a non-profit organization incorporated May 2, 1977 with the primary focus of providing the community of James Bay with low-cost/affordable services such as childcare, recreation, senior’s dinners & community special events.
We are located at 140 Oswego Street and are housed within the walls of the James Bay Community School.
The elementary school & the community centre have coexisted and have worked together to provide quality, educational opportunities in a fun environment for the past thirty three years.
South Harbour Partners
South Harbour Partners is a group of James Bay residents who’s Community Partnership include support for school led initiatives. Funds support additional resources which are not covered in the schools annual operating budget. Support in the areas of technology, improved literacy, and events that encourage social interaction with the greater community are priority areas identified by the residents.
Greater Victoria Harbour Authority
The Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA) was incorporated as a not-for-profit society in February 2002, and began operating its four port facilities, divested from Transport Canada, in April 2002. Acting as an advocate for the harbour, the GVHA is working to improve its function as a working harbour, and a marine transportation centre with a strong focus on tourism.
GVHA is a society registered with the Province of British Columbia and the Constitution and Bylaws of the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority are governed under the Society Act of British Columbia.
GVHA’s Board is comprised of Directors representing the its member agencies and organizations (Esquimalt Nation, Songhees Nation, Provincial Capital Commission, City of Victoria, Township of Esquimalt, the Victoria/Esquimalt Harbour Society, Tourism Victoria, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, and the Capital Regional district) and four community directors.
GVHA is passionate about the power of the harbour to act as a catalyst for Victoria to fulfill its destiny as one of the most outstanding harbours in the world. We have a responsibility to value the water connection, to make the harbour alive, accessible and dynamic!
